Hope for Pakistan's Children

Monday, 04 January 2010 05:33
In Pakistan, friends of HOPE worldwide have independently been running a small school for around 50 children in the Lahore area for about 9 years. This kind of personal initiative is not simply admirable, but truly inspirational considering the monthly wage of most Pakistani families.

The school has been managed and supported by the locals who contribute a part of their salaries to the school. 90% of the students pay no school fees. All students are provided with free books, notebooks, pencils, sharpeners and uniforms. Most people here can barely meet the basic needs of their lives, and yet they have supported this school for almost a decade.

As you all know from watching the news, the security situation in Pakistan, and particularly in Peshawar, has deteriorated dramatically over the past few months. This has caused considerable stress within the city and forced us to make changes in our Pakistan work. After discussions with the Director and one of the main contributors to the school, we have decided that this small school will now come under the oversight and guidance of HOPE worldwide Pakistan.
